Hi I have a question about DDP. I'm supplying a DDP made by Gear Mastering Software to a major label and they have written back saying I need to supply new ones as they get an error messgage saying: "ASPEN does not support DDP's with more than one: Track01.DAT Track 02.Dat" etc. I've no idea what this means and I don't know what Aspen is. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks

DDP is a specific protocol that has much more advanced error correction parameters than a standard audio CD, and can help to insure that the authoring ( gaps between songs, cross fades, etc.) of the master is a clean, error-free source from which further copies are made.

ASPEN is a digital processor, most commonly used for audio matrixing... I don't know a whole lot about it, other than that it is used to transfer audio sources to a specific path via Ethernet/network connection.

Though, I'm not sure how it applies in your particular situation, Alan... unless they are using the Aspen system to capture the DDP file(s) for the mastering stage?

I don't know a whole lot about it, past that which I've already mentioned.

Are you sending them multiple DDP files? Maybe they are looking for just one DDP file ... where all tracks and parameters are included?

Perhaps one of our resident mastering engineers could chime in and add their wisdom...

Hi. I am converting an existing CD to a DDPi using Gear Pro mastering edition version 7.0

It seems to automatically write a series of DAT files for each track. I'm not sure how to make just one lump? It creates a folder and inside that folder is a DAT for every track on the CD and a Checksum file.

I'm a bit baffled and any help is most welcome

As I mentioned above Alan, my knowledge is limited on this - I've never used Gear Pro mastering software. To be truthful, I've never even heard of it, but then again, I don't work with mastering engineers who require DDP files; if that kind of format is needed by replication/duplication facilities, I let the M.E. handle that stuff. It's part of what I'm paying them for. ;)

If you are an authorized user of the Gear Pro software, then you shouldn't have any issues contacting their customer support and asking them.

I also think you may want to make a call to the mastering facility as well, and find out exactly what it is that they need. I'm pretty sure they'd prefer to talk to you and make sure you get them what they need, as opposed to guessing, and sending them files that won't work again.
