I recorded myself playing a song with just my guitar. I want to listen to the track in my headphones and while so doing record a seperate track of vocals. So here are my questions:
1. (newb question) All I hear in my headphones is the guitar I cant hear my voice. How do I set up the mix in my headphones so I can also hear my voice to make sure I am sing in tune etc. I have my mic plugged into my mixer and the mixer into the sound card in my computer. The mixer is the Behringer UB802. So bascially I need to get some sort of monitor function in my headphones. I am guessing that in a professional studio you can hear your music AND yourself (monitor function) while you lay down your vocals?
2. (newb question) I have been using Sound Forge 7.0 to record. I went through all the tutorials and even searched online and I cant figure something out. And I know it is probably very simple.
I can only record one track. The most I have been able to do is record my guitar then record vocals ontop of the guitar. Then I even did some back up vocals to the the guitar and lead vocals. Problem is this is all on one track. I want 3 seperate tracks so I can mix them. Since all 3 are on one track I cant do anything that I want to do. I also have Homestudio 2002 from Cakewalk and I have the same problem there. What am I missing here?
Soooo, here is my question... How do I record a track, say guitar. Then listen to that in my headphones and record my vocals onto a SEPERATE track. Then lay backup vocals on a 3rd track. Anyone who is familiar with either of the fore mentioned software programs please help me! Like I said it is probably simple but nevertheless I cant figure it out.

You cannot do 3 tracks using Sound Forge. It is a stereo recording/mixing application. To do more than two tracks you would need a multitrack application like Cakewalk Home Studio or Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro). Others may chime in with less expensive options.
As for monitoring your guitar, you should connect your "Line Out" jack of your sound card to an input channel on your mixer. You will also probably need to set some sort of "Monitor sound while recording" option in the software if you have not already done so. You don't mention which sound card you have, so beyond that I can't offer other suggestions.

Ok I was able to connect the mixer to the computer's speaker imp
Ok I was able to connect the mixer to the computer's speaker imput (already had the mixer connected to the computer's mic imput). So now I can hear my mic (as a monitor) AND my guitar track in my headphones. The problem is now that I can only barely hear my guitar track. I have adjusted the volume on my computer and on the mixer but that doesnt work to raise the volume of the guitar track. The mic volume in the headphones is fine however.
So is there some way to balance the volume in the heaphones between the mic and the track? Cause right now all I hear is 90% mic and 10% guitar track.
