Anyone who sells CD's via Amazon's Advantage program knows that Amazon pockets an EXCESSIVE 55% of the list price. You get to set the list price and they pay you 45%. Well now it's gotten WORSE! They've started charging customers MORE than list price. Two of my CD's are set to $8.99 list price but sneaky Amazon is charging $9.45 and $10.67! I complained and they gave me the ole' fine print explanation. The long story short is that if you are thinking about selling your CD for less than $9.99 don't bother because Amazon will just pocket the extra money for THEMSELVES! Keep your CD's priced at AT LEAST $9.99 list.

If you have physical CD's to sell don't forget that you can sell via ccnow.com from your home website and do your own shipping. This way you pocket about 92%.

The silver lining on the horizon is that fewer and fewer people buy CD's any more. Right now for me it's about 1 CD sale for every 4 digital sales. For my next album release I will not even bother manufacturing CD's. Waste of money. Instead just sign up with Tunecore or Catapult and they'll get you into iTunes and Amazon's digital store at more reasonable rates.

BTW does anyone know of an independent digital store that you can deal with directly at better rates than you'd get through Tunecore or Catapult?
