been lurking this forum for a few days now, i really like it and you guys seem very nice.

i'm currently in the in-between stage of turning recording from a hobby into a business, and it's a little stressful. here's a song i wrote and recorded yesterday just for practice that's frustrating me a little bit, vocals especially. i have gone back and forth on the mix many, many times already. at times it's been very loud and more spread out, this mix is one of the more "dull" ones with vocals sitting a little more on top than i like, especially if you listen on (yuck) laptop speakers.

feedback is appreciated and welcomed, and i'm glad to be a part of this forum.

I think it sounds pretty good, the snare sounds a bit weak to me... the whole mix sounds crushed beyond belief though. The vocals I think need more space, it sounds they are being sung through a cardboard tube or something. I'm not a pro or anything, just what I notice. What kind of stuff are you recording with? Could I hear just a bare, unprocessed guitar track? I love how your guitars sound but can never seem to get a tone like that...

Post it on [[url=http://[/URL]="http://soundcloud.c…"]SoundCloud[/]="http://soundcloud.c…"]SoundCloud[/] or something. Most members aren't going to download a file and want it to stream from the web. I'll listen though.

There's background hiss throughout and some clipping at the start (minute 0:46) on the guitars. sarNz is correct, it sounds like it wants to open up, but it's being held back. Compressed... maybe needs some stereo widening on the vocals and some frequency-specific exciters and EQ to get the vocals out. Everything sounds like it's sitting in the mid-range.

From your lyrical content it seems you had a bad experience with some Christians, but that's not a discussion to be made on RO I'm sure.

I am on a drive to Joplin, MO for a show right now but I will try and upload it to soundcloud when we get there. the guitar is recorded direct in and then through amplitube 2. the vocals are very frustrating to me, they've been too airy, too thin, and now theyre too dull. I appreciate the responses, and yeah I got a bit careless when trying to make the mix louder. sorry. it's cause it wasn't final and I was angry, haha.

And I am glad I am not FT, either, from what I hear on this strange video...

I can hardly agree with any of the mastered sounds..
and if anybody says that it is because of the compressed youtube file..... Hell, just don't present it over this media...

I couldn't agree with any of that YouTube video you posted Big K. Mostly because I don't speak German LOL. It looked like a promising video though. What was intriguing was that the song was English and the narration was German.

And then I thought... man, that Alan guy from Audio TechKnowledge sure looks a lot like Big K (small avatar photo) so I better be careful what I say. Probably isn't you though... that's Alan Parsons.

No Allan Parson, here, ..lol...and he is 12 years older...!

I don't know Tischmeyer... He is a somewhat different character to me.
I'd give him a prize for badly produced videos, though. It is not too easy to find out about his works.
His publications, otoh., are all over the place. Not my kind of dude...
