Hi everyone,

I am looking for a software that allows you to trigger sound cues for a live theater type production by assigning audio clips to keys on a laptop; having any of them for immediate playback at the touch of a key.
is there something like that available?

thanks

You could do this in a couple of ways in Samplitude if you need a DAW...

There is what is basically a theater mode (called O-tone mode) where the program plays clips in order by hitting space only. In samplitude speak, it draws a range over the next object down the timeline. It really is pretty cool.

You could also set up a session with markers on the clips and pull them up instantly in the marker manager.

Really, though, the 360-systems boxes are the best out there for that function. Expensive, but they are rock solid and do exactly what you need.

yup, definitely out of the budget. seems like the akai MPC100 would be a good candidate. but for track labelling and visual display, software would be best. we have cubase an wavelab which can navigate to markers easy enough. the instant response triggering of anything from .5sec up to a few minutes is the real necessity; kind a hit or miss with cubase/wavlab

Having come from theater sound design, I will say this. If somthing is the least bit complicated, the operator will eventually screw it up. It's the nature of live theater. I always tried to keep playback as simple as possible. That said, what about mini disc players. You can lable the cues so their titles show on the display, and playback and cueing are very fast. Its linear, so you have to work out your cue sheet pretty thoroughly and order your sounds and the discs accordingly. Use two decks, so you can a/b your cues or layer them.
