My friend wanted to use my studio for the night and he was using his MacBook Pro and he didn't install Logic Studio yet so he decided to stick with Garageband for now. I plugged in my Alesis Multimix8 into it and I had my MPC, my Electribe, everything connected right but whenever he tried recording a track on it there was absolutely nothing, it just wouldn't record. We're both sort of new at this so are we missing something that we need to do for it to work?

My mixer has usb connectivity so I'm pretty sure the use of a audio interface isn't needed, or at least from what I know. I'm not entirely sure as to whether the tracks were armed for recording, enlighten me?

Make sure your mixer is selected as your audio device, in the Audio/Midi setup utility (found in the utilities folder), check to see if the Axiom is detected as a Midi device
Select your mixer as your interface in GBs preferences.
The Axiom should be good through USB
Be aware the GarageBand does not transmit MIDI to external devices. However there is the freeware MIDI I/O plug that will allow two-way MIDI communication.(google it)

I don't use G.B. but the most obvious thing is, did you get the software to recognize the hardware? Usually something like a devices tab, because GB was probably "looking" for whatever the previous device was that had been hooked up to it. You might have to load drivers for the Alesis.
