I have upgraded from a G4 to a G5. Needless to say the thing is phenomenally fast. Its quite a machine. In any case I've been using a MOTU 2408 with the G4 but it doesn't work with the G5 not without spending more money. In the mean time I've been using MY old Panasonic 3800 DAT as a temp converter. I go Analog in from Neve Mic Pre through DAT to Optical out into G5 optical In. Is this a decent way into the computer? I'm using DP 4.5 so far it sounds pretty good. I'm curious to see if this is OK in the mean time until I figure out what to get next to replace 2408 .
thanx,

What you are probably giving up 24bit recording, and the ability to switch to a higher sampleing rate.
Contact MOTU there is a PCI card exchange program for your interface.
