I have used the EL8 twice now once as two different comps another as stereo pair on my mix bus.
Amazing boxes. I too record digitally these things perform i,m sure in any pro situation. Have not used the Fatso yet.

Like Louiseven I've not used a Fatso but IMHO it's hard to go wrong with a Distressor. It's a modern classic.

I can summ them up like so:

Distressor (MONO)- Wonder tool of the 90's and onwards (even overtaking the other wonder tool the Finalizer! The Fatso pauses poiltely for it's burial in the christ did we think that was good? hole, then continues on like the Duracell bunny)- an excelent, afforable all rounder with exceptional performance on live drum -Room mic 'crush' duties.

Fatso (STEREO) - Tape simulator gizmo for folks pissed off with direct to DAW 'no tape anymore' audio, which confusingly, has additional (basic but usefull) compression functions too.

Pick a unit....

Stereo distressor on the 2 mix leaves me ...ugh...distressed... I think it smears the the 2image too much.

I was able to audition the Fatso on a rock gtr... THAT won me over. Previously I had seen it smoosh up some drums on a demo and thought it ... poor. Just peeked over at it at a bad moment I geuss. The second look / trial, convinced me.

I had been using a SSL comp on overheads, perhaps the Fatso will do me better, perhaps it will be needed on Kick n Snare more....!!!

Tracking is a one time thang aint it?
