I am looking to make a major jump in my overall recordings. My recordings sound great, but I think they can sound even better. I am considering either buying a single class A preamp such as the Great River, etc..., better AD Conversion, or better monitors.
I am wondering if I will be able to hear better AD conversion on my current monitoring or a better preamp difference. My budget is between $1000-2000 and I wouldl like to really upgrade the most I can for the littlest as possible (for example: The Great River preamp will give me "perfect vocal" tracks and "perfect bass" as well as a great single channel for drums. My songs style are punk/pop punk.
What do you think is the most important thing to upgrade first? Also if you have suggestions on which upgrade would be most crucial, I'd be happy to know. (I know the EMU 1820m is supposed to have great converters but how much better will Apogeeetc... be?)

upgrade
I just bought a Great River 2 channel mic pre amp. I love it. I would highly reckomend it.
Also some other pre's to look at are the API stuff. I also have a 4 channel (API 3124+) 8)
It kicks ass. And I might suggest the Avalon M5. I use Avalon stuff myself and I like it alot.
If you want reverb... try to get the best one you can get. But beware anything under say $1500 or so is sometimes NOT very high quality.
I myself use Eventide. It is expensive. BUT, you get what you pay for.
I've had all the $1000 pre's and $800 effect processors that I can stand. Unfortunatly you got to pay to play.
Play on player...play on
