How bout ya Kurt? Did you get the Thorax? Have you had any time to play with it? What do you think?
We all know how skeptical you are about the Sebatron products. (just a joke)

I am going to need to purchase a high end compressor for my rig. Do you think that the Thorax could be the one?
I want the best one I can get my hands on for under $3000
Mostly I need a limiter, to keep the vocal tracks constant.
Is that the intention behind the design of the Thorax?

You should also check into the glory comp in that range. The people who have the prototypes have said it's amazing. I too am interested in how the new thorax sounds. It seems like a cool piece, and I'm sure if it's like Seb's other products it will be a great unit.
In the $3k range I also would consider the Crane Song stc-8, the pendulum es-8, and probably a couple of others. You can get a lot of comp for $3k.

Have you though about getting a stereo pair of distressors? They definitely aren't specifically for vox, but they are very versatile. Their probably one of the best compressors you could purchase if you are going for pure versatility in your studio. It's also going to depend on what kind of music you are doing.

No, please tell me more. I see that UA has what they call a limiter out as well. Is this simular?
I want something that is going to keep my vocals from "jumping" as certain notes or verses.

The UA piece looks pretty interesting, but I haven't played with one yet. Probably will be a great piece for vocals and bass, but you really can't tell without using it or at least hearing someone else with experience.
The distressors are probably the most common compressor I see in modern studios. They are controlled digitally but the signal path stays analog. They are very flexible due to their various emulations. They can do the LA-2a 'opto' thing or they can get crazy like an 1176. They even have the ability to add a little pleasing distortion into the sound. The distressor really has some cool sounds...and you can smash something and really hear it working if you want to. The bad rap on them is that they are sometimes too aggressive. A few people complain about them on vox but it is mostly because they are not tweaking the settings correctly and are running it too aggressively.
You can pick one up new for anywhere b/t 1350 and 1550, depending on the options you choose. There is a 'Brit Mod' and a 'Stereo Link Mod' that are available. The Brit mod emulates the effect of a 1176 when you push all the ration buttons in...a former 'secret' of top engineers...It really goes crazy and gets pumping. The stereo mod is a must if you want to run them in stereo. They have a stereo option w/o the mod but it does not sync up as well. That being said, most people rarely use them in stereo unless it's on a drum sub or something like that. They are a little aggressive to use on the mix bus most of the time.
If you're looking for the best possibility for only vox, the distressor might not be your best choice.

I`ve been looking for a good (great) channelstrip for some time now. I`ve checked around at dusins of studios, made a lot of phonecalls and sent a lot of emails and there is especially one channelstrip that everybody seems to like... Millennia STT-1 Origin... I couldnt find a single soul that had tried the Millennia and not liked it.
I`ve read Kurt`s review of the millennia and he highly recommended it. But that review (by kurt) was done some time ago, and I was just wondering (if you read this kurt) where would you "rank" the millennia? For instance, there seems to be a lot of excitement about sebatron Thorax theese days.. If you could choose either of them, witch one would U choose?
I`ve also had my eyes one the API 3124+... If I`m not mistaken, Stuart ("Its that guy again") U own one of theese right? Have U had any chance to compare the API with the Sebatron VMP 4000e? Are u satisfied with your API 3124+? (sorry if I`m wrong but I seem to remember reading somewhere on this forum that U had an API preamp..)
One final question (while I`m at it..) Soundelux U195.... Any comments? Will this mic to a good job with the millennia? (Mostly voice and acoustic stuf... no "heavy metal/noice)

Oh yeah, I like the API 3124+ alot!
I think the attack is real fast and the drummers love it.
It is very quite and I can not ever see me parting with it.
But the Sebatron stuff is next on my list.
I want to get 1, Thorax and 1, 2000e VU

I want to get 1, Thorax and 1, 2000e VUWell------------I can honestly say that,,,I now own, my very 1ST VMP2000e,to say the least,Ive had to re-learn,what mic,s really sounds like.
Ive tried to use my "budget" comps with the Seb-----but,its a NO_GO kinda thing----I should of known.
-I-Am very suprised -though-with my Presonus Eurekas comp, and eq-------------the preamp doesnt come close to the Seb----but the comp&eq are "in-my opinion" easy to work with and its a great tool to get the job done "quick".
I really would like to hear a Thorax in action!!! hint----hint!!!!! KURT!~!!!!!

I can say one thing, I think this thing will get a lot of use as a bass pre amp comp ...
