I recently purchased a set of http://www.krksys.com/products_rokit_rp5.php. I love the monitors. Perfect for what I need. I also purchased an http://www.m-audio.com.
The monitors have XLR, TRS, and RCA in's. The card has Balanced 1/4 out's. So what cables would be best for this? Do I use balanced? or unbalanced? Or does it matter if the cables are only 3-5 feet long? Or should i use the XLR to 1/4 cables?
I may even run the soundcard outs to a monitoring station, then from there to the monitors. Still only a few feet in between each. Any suggestions?

At least add a passive volume controller! At least!
My MOTU 8Pre makes some funny high pith noises when i boot my PC and the interface initialises. I can only imagine how they would sound at full volume.
Google can give you a howto on making a passive volume controller :) Or you can order a cheap one pre-made. just plug and pray.

Picking that up tomorrow. Run the sound card outs to it. Then run the monitors and headphones out of it. Give me control over headphone volume, monitor volume, talkback function, and headphones for the musician.
So what cables do I run from the soundcard to this station?
Then what cables from this station to the monitors?
Monitors say TRS, soundcard says balanced/unbalanced, monitor station says TS.[/url]

You could use TRS-TRS or TRS-XLR cables from the Audiophile192 outs to the monitors. Stick with balanced and avoid the RCA inputs.
What's your "monitoring station"?
