Ok,

so heres the deal, ill start with a list of my equipment.
1. macbook
2. Alesis master control
3. mpk49
4. mxl v89
5. SE reflex filter (goes behind the mic)

right now, I'm doing recording through Cubase le 4, which is being a pain in my ass. my first problem is getting 'mono' to record properly. I start a new track, with the settings on mono, but it doesnt record at all for some reason. If i do 'stereo'. well than i only get one ear of vocals, and i dont want to have to copy, paste, and flip to get both sides if i dont have to. My second problem is the quality, I'm recording vocals only, even with the fancy equipment, it still sounds sub par from a recording studio i use to go to.
idk what i should do, some advice or direction would be greatly appreciated for both problems I'm having.

thanks for the response everyone, but ive tried what youve reccommended, and still im having no good results. idk what to do, thinking about upgrading my regular macbook, to a macbook pro and seeing if the upgrade in computer will do the trick, cuz i look at screen shots of how things should look (for example, on vst connections, insteada saying 'mic line 1' it only says 'alesis firewire 1'. lemme know if you have any other thoughts cuz idk what i should do right now. :((

Check the cuebase website for patches and the correct version for your version of OS-X. A lot of the latest and greated fixes and patches are different for 10.6 onward. So, if you're pre Snow Leopard (10.6) you may have a wooby driver that needs to be down graded.

Otherwise, it sounds like your hardware configuration is set for stereo I/O instead of mono I/O

I don't know how your I/O is actually laid out, but often, (like when you set a converter to stereo for one pair of Output channels for your monitors), the corresponding Input channels are locked together. You may want to examine ALL the input channels to see if they are all doing the same thing or not.
