My first thought is you have some setting wrong, either the basic setting that tellsd the DAW to output to the Firebox or the individual track is not set to output correctly.

These statements are not in agreement. The first one seems like an output routing issue most likely OS based, but the latter makes it seem like an input/sync or other unrelated issue. PC or mac? What DAW?

First of all, do you have monitors plugged into the firebox? If you don't hear anything from the laptop speakers, don't expect to. The monitor outs on the Firebox are there for a reason.

Regarding the red light: first download the latest drivers. If that doesn't help, it may be that your Firewire port is substandard. It sounds to me that your firewire is having difficulty syncing.

I'm using headphones, but yeah they are plugged into the interface. I don't think its the firewire port because ive used other interfaces before with no problem. To answer guitarfreak, that is why im asking because I'm not sure if the problems are related. I've tried different outputs but with no sucess

Try enabling the monitor button on the track. You may not hear audio from playback if you are monitoring input or while the track is record enabled.

Just to clarify, jg49, Im running Sonar 7, not Logic 7. I downloaded the most recent drivers, but still nothing. I'm looking for a monitor enable button (or anything similar), but I don't see anything. Are you familiar as to where this might be in Sonar?

Ok, I think I found the problem. Thanks to all those who helped. However, my interface's light still often turns red, and the input signal isn't read. Does anyone know what may be causing this?

Yeah, a crappy piece of hardware. I'm about to send in my firebox for repairs because my red light won't go away. I've had it for two years and it's done it off and on almost the whole time, and now, it's permanent. What I usually do is right click "manage" on "my computer," go to the device manager, uninstall the firewire driver, shut the computer all the way off (no restart) and turn it back on again. Reinstall the firebox driver if needed. Also check to make sure your firewire cable is ok. Most likely, it's your stupid firebox. I just ordered a new audio interface from a different company and I'm going to sell this one on ebay once it's fixed. I've spent way too much time fudging with this joke of an interface. It's an all too common problem for people.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the hardware for a syncing issue. Syncing is controlled by software and software alone. I never ever have sync problems with my FireBox, nor does anyone I know who owns one. We all use our FireBoxes with the mac operating system. Since you quoted clicking on 'My Computer', I can assume that you are using a Windows based system, and could be the actual source of your problem. There could be an incompatibility somewhere, or maybe your OS can't handle the burden.

Could be the firewire card that needs replacing. Don't blame it on the box or software yet. Test the possibilities. Is your firewire chipset part of the supported hardware list?

Incidentally, I tried downloading the Sonar 7 PE Demo. It would not recognize my Mbox 2 at all. Sonar relies on WDM drivers afaik. Have you tried your interface with the included Cubase Software?
