I think this forum needs a huge front banner that people have to read the first time after they join and before their first post.

Something like "We are a willingly helpful community of professional and amatuer audio recording enthusiasts who will more than gladly try to answer your questions. Please be cognizant of the fact that to answer intelligently, we will need information from you. You can help by supplying any relevant information about your system or equipment, and what you hope to achieve or solve. You wouldn't e-mail a mechanic and simply say "Why won't my car start" without giving a description, would you?
Please list equipment and brief details of the problem or goal. Thank you."

Not to pick on you, but that's just not enough info to go on. This is probably the 100th time I've had to nudge info from people who haven't supplied any. Please read your posts and consider what you would think if someone presented you with your question. We don't know if you're having problems with an interface, Sonar...or what.

Again, sorry to sound like I'm cajoling you...it's just getting frustrating. (I'm sure a lot of others would agree. Sometimes a post will go completely unanswered for lack of info, but I try to gently pull it out of them).

So, anyway, you just happened to be the person I lost it on. I apologize. :oops:

great post, Kapt. No need to apologize. This question is way too vague, and pretty much asks the reader to explain EVERYTHING. I suspect the poster is very new, and needs to learn a bit about everything as they're getting started. Too many questions, no idea where to start.

Best to read as much of the basic stuff as possible BEFORE posting, then wade in carefully to test the waters.

Also, if they own a legit copy of Sonar, there's probably an owners manual somewhere to explain the basics of recording sound INTO the computer, be it stereo, mono, etc. Ditto for the salesman that sold the gear to them.

i am sorry for giving not enough info, i guess my english is not good so it is difficult to ask something correctly and also maybe after 2 years of wait when finally i got my sound interface it started giving us trouble from the very first day, i guess thats why we've been quite frustrated , i mean even after completing are small setup we could not start our work but hopefully as im searching the websites and reading manuals i would be able to resolve issues with my interface.
i contacted the tc electronics support and they were very helpful, they suggested me to try a TI chipset firewire card instead of via which i have right now, and also to download some windows patches for Severice Pack 2 , they say it does some settings and slows down the data speed of firewire. the patches did not resolve the issue completely.

i have been recording on the sb live before i started recording on konnekt 8 interface.
they have poor drivers but thankfully they are still updating on their site.
while iv been recording i never tried to find out whether i was recording in stereo or mono for guitar tracks and keyboard tracks because we just used to record rough and then take that idea to a professional studio to record correctly. it is now i feel the necessity so just started to figure out what i was doing and what is the correct method of recording electric guitar and bass etc.
because working on tracks at home would save time and money at the studio.
if you can please provide me some links that could help me understand the very basics of recording instruments and vocals , and when and why they are recorded stereo

In Sonar, the Tracks View will enable you to choose whether you want to record in stereo and mono. If you have a properly configured multi-channel I/O, all those options should appear as inputs.

I'm still running a Delta 1010 on one of mine.

On track 1, I may choose:

Left Delta 1010 1/2, Right Delta 1010 1/2, Stereo Delta 1010 1/2.

If I wanted mono, I'd choose one of the first two. Stereo...obviously the stereo option.

Since one of the mono options will only be recording that one input, that track will be a mono track. So, if I choose Left 1010 1/2, on mine, input 1 of the Delta will be that track, mono. If you wish, you could move the pan to the left, if you have everything mixed to stereo to monitor.

If I wanted to put a stereo keyboard in, for instance, I could simply choose Stereo Delta 1010 1/2, plug the left and right out of my keyboard into inputs 1 and 2, and it would record a stereo track in track one.

Hopefully, yours is set up properly to do that. So, you may end up with some mono tracks, and some stereo tracks....but the stereo tracks will still be ONE Sonar track...in the keyboard's case, track 1.

You're going to have to go though your Audio Options to set all this up, and enable all the drivers you want to use.

You may even need to adjust more in the future, depending on your system and work requirements. All that is explained in the manual. You HAVE to set it up first.

Anyway, I believe that this may be what you are asking.

Be prepared to take a bit of time learning all this. Be patient, or it will drive you bonkers!

thanks a lot kapt, yes i was exactly looking for these answers, although while i recorded i used to change the inputs in the track view to see what happens but i couldn't theoratically understand it. well thank you very much again.
