I hope I've posted this in the right spot. I was recording some dialogue (audio book) and, when listening back, noticed a strange interference. Hopefully you can see in the image, the noise starts up in the high range, slowly creeps down to about the middle and then sweeps back up again. it also started soft, got louder and then trailed off again. this was over the course of about 25 min. What could cause something like this? Surely were not picking up bloody satellites.

We're recording on an imac using a rhode mic into a konnekt 6 desktop interface (firewire) and everything is plugged into a power conditioner. A Furman M-8Lx I believe.

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

thanks
Carl

do you have the latest drivers for everything. are you running any other programs during tracking. are there cell phones, or wifi near you? how bout mic cables running along side power cables? do you live very close to an airport, or radio station? what about any funky adapters or anyting? has this ever happened before?

do you belive in aliens? :) I can't tell by looking at it what it sounds like, but i've never had the problem your describing, the closes i've ever heard was a strange sweer sound while shutting down equipment in the wrong order.

if you could post a clip it's be very helpful so we can hear the sound and hopefully isolate the cause. but the stuff i asked at the top is generally a good place to start for weird noises.

Thanks for the reply. Just heading home after another session. Same thing happened today at about 2:10. And started again a little after 3:00. So we're thinking grow op? Something new in the area.

I'll upload a sample of the noise a little later

Hey. Sorry I haven't responded. Today we went and tried a different power conditioner. A belkin pure av. Tried changing all the cables 1 at a time. Turned everything off in the house. And finally went n picked up another rhode nt2-a. Turns out it might have been the mic. Signal looks better. Just watching to see if that sweeping frequency pops in
