This is primarily directed to Opus, but others feel free to mock me as well!

Gary...my poor ASUS TUSL2-C PIII 1GHz is starting to bog down a bit on me lately with some of my more complicated works. I know there is going to be this *huge* jump in technology sometime next year, but I am beginning to feel that I can't wait too much longer...I am thinking that if I really stretch it, I can probably wait until early Spring of 2003. Any idea on when we can expect to see some of these new goodies that I can never hope to understand, but drool over the prospect of using?

LOL James! Unfortunately the new stuff is not to be released until Q2 of 2003.
To tell yuo the truth the new chipsets that are coming out are really good. The 845GEP I believe it is. The new Asus boards that are coming out will support the Hyper Threading technology with the 3GHz CPU P4's!! Plus they will be backwards complaint to allow for Non Hyper Threading CPU's.
Also the fact that they are a P4 Northwood is good enough for what you will need it to do.
The new stuff coming out next year is probably going to take a little while for prices and stability to be honest since it's basically brand new technology.
I would get a new machine at this point...prices are really good too!
I'm in Chicago on a dial up connection so when I get back I'll go into more details on what boards and chipsets we should be going for and so forth

Yo Bro...thanks! Update us when you get time... There are also several "ANUS update" threads here that I can check out, but if there is something else new, let me know. I am pretty happy with Asus, so I will probably stick with them...

I have a nice graphics card already (Matrox G550) that I will pull out of my current machine, and put my "old" 32MB AGI Asus graphics card in the old machine to use with the VST System Link. Other than that, I will be building from scratch.

But then, there are some people who really prefer AMD to Intel, in which case, perhaps there should be AAS (pronounced ASS) ... ASUS Athlon Society!
BTW ... AMD technology will be taking a step forward in the very near future. The XP2700+ and XP2800+ will be released soon, featuring a 333 fsb. Also, nForce2 motherboards will be hitting the shelves this month ... the first ASUS version will be the A7N8X.
My main concerns will be to see how the drivers are, and to see if these nForce2 cards are more generally compatible than other chipsets/motherboards that have been manufactured for the Athlon platform. *Fingers crossed*
I'm quite anxious to see how a XP2800+/A7N8X system smokes ... errrr ... "compares to" a P4.
