If anyone is interested...

CompUSA (I know...I know...) is having a big sale this week (10/14 - 10/21/2001) on Western Digital 40 GB 7200 RPM drives. (I am assuming that the prices are the same nation-wide).

List Price: $129
Instant Rebate <$20>

Out of pocket = $109

*Then* there is a $50 mail-in rebate (I hate mail-ins)...

This brings the net price to $59 for a Western digital 40 GB 7200 RPM drive...not bad! This is a little over a buck a gig...I remember when HDs came *down* to a buck a *MB*...we were thrilled and couldn't imagine things getting any better...hehe...and it wasn't *that* long ago!

I prefer
1) IBM scsi drives (can't beat scsi 160, 10,000 rpm an' hotter than a stripper on your lap!) :D
2) Seagate

The price of everything is very low right now.
I got a 200 watt ATX power supply for a whooopin' $5!! at tigerdirect.com - who knows how long it'll last, but the shipping was more than the price!

I have also always had good luck with Western Digital.

FYI, they are ATA drives that I have running on my new ATA/100 card. :)

At $59 US, I had a tough time passing them up. I had originally planned to go SCSI/160 as llorkcor2 always exorts, but when I saw the price...sheesh! I could pass up the deal, and had to buy two!!! That is *two* 7,200 WD 40 GB ATA drives for $118 US. I looked on Pricewatch.com this morning, and the cheapest WD/40 I could find was $80/ea. plus shipping. I saved $21 *each* over Pricewatch!!! :D (Now if I can ever get my *friggin* mail-in rebate back in this lifetime, I'll be all set!) ;)
