I'm new to midi and would like to purchase a Fatar TMK-37 MIDI Controller because quite frankly...it's $39.99! I want to use this to create drum loops and also some keys here and there. Is anyone familiar with this unit, and will it be decent for what I want to do?
Next question. is DFH Superior really as good as the samples on the site? Is it possible to make drum sounds that human or did they just get clever and pawn off the samples as being created with a midi controller when it was really a guy playing?
With the controller and software I have in mind. can I expect to create some decent, and almost REAL sounding drums?
Thanks!

I'm running DFHS with Sonar and would say the software sounds better than the site. They fooled my drummer to the point of him abandoning the cost of mics and preamps and investing in some really good midi triggers.
The samples in the software were recorded with top notch preamps and the usual suspects in microphones. The cost for the average musician to have access to that type of gear makes the mere investment of $300 that DFHS costs, very attractive.
A good drum pad or decent midi triggers and DFHS will produce a much better result than hours of playing with Chinese mics and preamps that most home recordists use.
If you have access to a great room, API preamps and a couple of thousand dollars in mics, you might get better results. For the rest of us DFHS is a great tool.
Another aspect of the software is all of the incredibly expensive drum kits they recorded. Your average musician does not have acces too all of that hardware. A really great value for project studios.

I'm using a Roland V-drum kit triggering DFH superior into Logic. Sounds absolutely awesome..... But there's no substitute for a real drummer...hence use of real drummer playing midi pads to trigger these awesome samples...The multilayers and velocities etc are the key..adds the variety and dynamics that give the human feel
Highly recommend it.

Can't agree more. DFHS is awesome, particularly if you're processing with decent EQ / compression like from the UAD-1. The great thing is that get separate virtual mic outputs: Room, Kick, Snare top and bottom, Separate toms, Hihats, Overheads.
The drums sound way better once you process them than on the toontrack site - those are completely unprocessed.
If you can get a real drummer to play them in using V-drums or similar you laughing.
And their support is absolutely excellent. I've had personal e-mail replies within a few minutes to some queries I've had.

i am using dfh superior with dp 4.12 without issues.. i am also triggering with a v-kit, this combination has been awesome, with excellent results... i must admit that getting superior to work with dp4 using rewire is not very intuitive... especially if you have never used rewire before (the AU doesn't work in dp4 very well) and the documentation is not that great. But superior is awesome when paired with the vkit... and well worth the effort. i am anxiously awaiting superior's custom and vintage release.

hummm... like I said I never got DFHS going with DP and I wasted a lotta time trying. last weekend i updated to 1.4 and i'd figure i would try it again. This time it gave me an error that the file something or other was corrupted- I tried reinstalling DFHS but all it did was to reinstall the program files, not the sounds themselves. I e-mailed toontracks and was told to reinstall, which I had already done- I e-mailed them again and never heard back from them- If you say that DFHS is awsome with vdrums, well that's the reason i got it in the first place but never had any luck with it after wasting countless hours. I suspect that i will have to start from scratch and throw all 30 GB out - dreading the thought but I might give it one more try. (when I got an extra day, that is)
i suspect though that maybe one of the DVDs is no good, in which case am probably sol as their support, at least in my experience, sucks. I just ordered Stylus RMX and if I like that I might just forget the whole DFHS experience. hate to waste 300 bucs but I've already wasted a lot more than 300 bucs worth of my time fiddling with it-

If you are running DFHS with Digital performer... let us just say I've never been able to get it going and their support is lacking...
