This is the last thread from me asking for gear advice (at least for the time being!)
I need mics mics mics :) I'm gonna use them for Micing guitar amps and for vocals. I wanna experiment a little so sticking up with a single mic for either amps/vocals isn't for me.
SM57 is already in my list. Been looking over Studio Projects B1, B3, C1, C3 and I don't know which ones I should get. I've also seen people recommend AKG's.
I also need a pair of headphones for monitoring. I'm not willing to spend more than $100-150 though as I'm gonna use them strictly for monitoring.

For vocals, I am currently reccomending the SP C3's or C1's (if you don't need multi pattern) for those who are dealing wth a constrained budget. If you can spend a bit more try the AKG414. If price is no object, U87, C12VR, Manley Reference,
For guitar mics, I would go for Sennheiser 421's ... and SM57's. I have also used the AKG D112 on distorted guitar amps ... one trick I like is to use 2 421's on the front baffel of an open backed amp, panned left/right and a LD in figure 8 pattern, placed sideways behind the amp panned down the middle. I usually use the U87 for this but I have tried the SP C3 also with good results.
how do they compare? how do the C1, C3 compare to the AT 4040,

how do the C1, C3 compare to the AT 4040, 4033, or AKG C3000B? I understand the 4040 is transformerless, and the AKG uses "microtransformer" technology - how does this effect the sound? Never heard of the C1 or C3... any good?
I'm looking for a decent vocal mic for home stuff and the 414 is a bit out of my price range.

So many choices on mics... Try the M-Audio Solaris - You'll be shocked.
