Say you have an awesome track but there's one spot in the waveform that peaks a little, how do you handle that? Normalize?

toss a compressor or limiter on it. be careful though not to set the threshold any lower than necessary or you'll take the life out of your sound. you dont want your whole track with it's head cut off.
otherwise you might be able to sneak in a little automation and briefly lower the volume of the offending track for a second.
