Probably a very stupid question, but I am quite new to this and am puzzled...
Until now all of my recording has been with a dedicated multitrack machine, I am now looking to start using a PC and some squencing software.
My question is.
Both the Mackie Onyx and the Alesis Multimix 16 can be used to record live sources direct to the PC, but what i am unsure of is whether or not these mixers can also be used for mixing the recorded tracks or are they just use to capture the live source?
Ideally I want a system where I can use real physical faders and pots to mix the track rather than usng the PC & mouse.
Initially, I was going to go for an Alesis HD24 and a Behr eurodesk, but would like the flexibility of using plugins for synths and so on.

no. you need a "controller" to mix in the box with faders. oth
no. you need a "controller" to mix in the box with faders. otherwise its just the mouse. i've read the onyx has better pres than the alesis, but the mackie digital out is pre fader (so you can control live levels and not affect the recording levels - and the firewire option for the mackie costs hundreds extra.
