Hello!
I'm an aspiring producer in the somewhat early stages of development. I have a home studio that I've put about 20 k into and I really enjoy just making noize if nothing else, but at the same time I really need to do something education and career wise, and I'm considering the Conservatory for Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe AZ. I guess I'm just looking for any input from professionals on the subject. Any graduates out there? Is this a top choice for education in the biz? I have'nt got the tuition info yet... Does anyone have an idea of what I can expect to pay for this education, how long I should expect to learn & intern, and what I could expect to earn once I'm armed with a degree or cert.? I'm really ignorant about a lot of this as far as career choices and pay for an engineer these days. Any help, guidance or suggestions from those of you who are in the know is greatly appreciated!
Thanks Chris

Well, having a degree is great and all but that's not what people look for when hiring someone for a studio or hiring out your studio...what they look for is experience...plain and simple. To break into the industry you have to pay your dues so to speak.
The great thing about any recording school is MAKING CONTACTS!!! This is key..the more contacts you make the better. Interning is also good since you get to see what happens in the real world and apply it to your own stuff. Also if you are a good intern and you stick it out and learn the gear and inner workings you will be sitting behind the console in no time and engineering the projects yourself. I could go on and on about this but to be honest...it's all been covered in the Pro Talk side before..I would venture over there(somewhere I haven't been in decades it seems! :D

I've lived in our around Murfreesboro, Tn. for about 7 years now. Thirty miles away from Nashville, right in the middle of Murfreesboro, is MTSU(Middle Tennessee State University).

I've never attended there, but I have friends who have. They have only good things to say about the ciriculum there. Now, I don't know if packing up and moving to Nashville is what you want to do. But, if you're serious(at least about checking out your options), or hell, even if you're a curious passer-by who happens to read this post, follow the links and just view the facilities. They are ranked as one of the best recording departments in the nation. If that ain't enough to make your mouth water, then this was probably not the forum you were looking for...LOL :D

I tell ya...LA is definately the place to be..ever since I got here I've had doors opened up left and right for me..but again, it's word of mouth and me being persistent and contacting the right people or knowing the right people....these forums have helped tremendously as well...I've met some really cool people through here and it's led to some really cool stuff as well.....
If you are one of those people who are confident in their ways and knows how to show that confidence to people you will get places.

Murfreesboro...Hmmmmmm... Oh yeah! That's where my Kurzweil came from! There's a guy there that sells gear on the net. I'm thinking his name is Chris too. Called the gear closet... I think he has a store front now. Have you heard of him? I'm sure you have if your like me, I know every gear store within 50 mi.! If not you should check it out. He gives some pretty good deals and has EVERYTHING!
I think I would be more inclined to move to L.A. than Tenn. I grew up in the ozarks so I'm accustomed to hillbillies, but next time I move I've gotta have ocean again. I live in Phoenix now... I don't give a shit how dry it is here! IT IS TOO HOT! No wonder it so dry, I've been here 7 mo and it has rained twice that I can remember... I'm really starting to wonder why people ever came here in the first place. Why not just build a city in the middle of death valley?
Kinda funny how easy it is to get off the subject in here! Ever notice that opus?
OK thanks for the advice! I guess I'll wait and see what tuition is gonna run. I have a feeling it's not cheap!
P.S. I'm pretty sure (I posted this in PT too) that they have a couple extra graemlins over there. Where's the retarded one???

I know right where they're at. They used to be just off the square. But, now they've moved over by the skate rink. Small world huh?

Did you check out the facilities? Just take a gander. They even have a $1 million mobile production rig.

LOL...Ozark hillbillies. That reminds me of this one time I remembered that time I remembered.....LMAO Opus
