LOL, I can't figure this out. :o I've tried two different 1394 cards, the first was an Actiontec. Windows XP installed the driver, Device Manager shows the card as working properly, but I can't capture video! So I ran out to Staples (10 minutes before closing time) and picked up a Maxtor 1394. Same sh*t. Both Vegas Video 3, and Videowave 4 show no capture device. The camcorder is a Sony TRV140 digital8 my wife just bought. I used a four pin to six pin firewire cable. I even started disabling devices I wasn't using.
Contacting Sony, and the tech said I need a four pin 1394 card, not the six pin. :D

I seriously doubt it's the chip...I have two firewire cards..one with a TI chip and one with an NEC chip..both capture my Sharp DV cam via Premiere or the Windows Movie Maker program...
I select the 1394 port and voilla...video input..
When you plug your video camera in does it detect it? Does it ask you for drivers?
I'll look later on tonight when I get home..which will be later since I'm going to meet Kansas tonight!! They're playing with Bad Company at the Greek theatre! This ought to be interesting! lol!
Until then!

Nope, no detection by windows. Doesn't see the camera. I had read somewhere, that some older firewire cards were blowing Sony DV chips because of power in the six pin 1394. Hard to believe though....

Yes, Steve was the one who got me the backstage passes and tickets for the show :D
He's a really nice guy..unfortunately I did not make it to meet him before the show as traffic in LA was horrible due to the Lakers game!!
He likes to leave right away after playing as he doesn't like the fan scene that much..oh well
Kansas played well but to be honest...Bad Company ROCKED THE HOUSE!! Paul Rodgers is still the god of vocals! He really got you into the show...
the very last song Slash came out to play Wishing Well....what an end man!

I've had the same prob. with my sony! It has never worked when going into the larger port. But I never had much problem sending it to a laptop with the tiny firewire port. See if you can find a laptop to use to test. I have never seen the smaller port on a desktop... Could just be ignorant, but I know they're hard to find. Good luck. Lemme know if you figure it out so I can use mine!

ChrisStuckey, maybe you can get a better response from Sony than I did. The person that I spoke to told me I need a 4-pin firewire card, not a 6-pin. So like an idiot, I've been all over, looking for one. After searcing the net, and some local retailers, I've finally concluded that theres NO SUCH FUCKING THING!
(ahem)
Anyway, :D I did exchange the first non-working Sony for a second non-working Sony, got the same problems, and now I need to make another final return.
