Hi, my old NEC 17" computer monitor has developed a rather piercing hi pitched intermitent noise that is slowly driving me nuts and also annoying my dog. :p It comes and goes, almost always there at start up.

Is it time to go for the flat screen?

Hmm...

I've been thinking the same about my TV. My son
(1 year old tomorrow) seems to get driven nuts by the 15.625(?) kHz line frequency on my JVC. Before I even see the LED light, he turns to look at the screen when you power it up.

I'd be surprised if that was what you were hearing though, as typically computer monitors would run at a much higher frequency than that.

Have you tried changing the refresh rate? It it's the tube 'ringing' or somesuch causing the annoyance, then it may lower the noise. Just a thought.

Regards,

Glenn.
