Hi, should I set Virtual Memory to a specific size when working with Emagic Logic? Should I use the vcache setting (MaxFileCache etc.) as well? I am converting from Cubase and some people say that Logic doesn't benefit from these tweaks the way Cubase does. Opinionsor truths perhaps?

Thanks,
/Henrik

I cant say that I have ever heard that Logic doesnt take advantage of different system tweaks..Virtual memory and Vcache are ar microsoft/system dependant. I would set the Virtual Memory to the same number for minimum and maximum..Vcache I would set to 16k for both as well. If you have 512 MB ram I would set the VM to 768 min and max. it's basically 1.5 times the amount of Ram you have..
Also disabling Write behind cache for your drives too...hope that helps

Gary, that's what I had always heard. 1 1/2 times your physical RAM. So, not to split hairs, but you may understand how I could be confused by the Windows 98 tuning guide on your website when it says:

"Nowadays you will need less...for example-128MB RAM is about 192Min and Max
256MB RAM you should set to 128Min and Max. Obvioulsy it is not going to hurt your system if you allocate more than your memory but it is not needed and will use your hard drive more than you need it to."

Based on that advice, I would set my 512MB system to 256MB of Virtual Memory Min and Max. Your comments?

Honestly, I'm not trying to be a jerk. I've just been confused by this issue since I first started crashing systems four years ago.

Thanks for your help as always.

You can go either way...what I dont reccomend is putting the VM too high..some people put it at 3 times or more..the statement is just to let you know that memory configs and systems have changed so much that tweaks change as well!!! It's sooo hard to always say the right thing especially many months later!! Technology..got to hate and love it at the same time!!!
No offense taken on the picking apart of what I wrote either!! As I said..tweaks change very often!!
