Hey Opus on the virtual memory setting recommendation, do you do the same for both your system and audio drive? And, why that setting? Does that not limit the size of your swap file vs either a larger setting or windows managed? (BTW, regarding your hometown, I knew it was one of those North Shore seaside towns. They're all the same to us South Shore folks!) Thanks again!

Well, first of all....you don't want a VM for both drives...that's overkill and highly not recommended to do that as the OS will work overtime and slow things down.
Keep the VM on the OS drive. I've said it before..with XP you don't need a large VM setting...XP handles memory in a different way so that it's not needed. Letting windows manage your swap is bad since it uses any available free space on the drive, expands and contracts as needed ...these two issues right there cause fragmentation of the worst kind!
Setting the swap to min and max makes it use the outer part of the disk which is the fastest access time for the drive in general.
Make sure you defrag after changing the VM so to reimage the drive so to speak
South shore huh......SOUTHIE!!! lol :D

Er...I feel this old SOUHTIE'S analog geezer mind going into overload....

You stated:

When you state "VM" I'm assuming you mean virtual memory, but are you referring to the fixed setting of 384 min/max or is "VM" windows managed?

garysjo wrote:

Ummm...Ok....so I set my OS drive for 384 min and max since I have 512meg of RAM right? On my audio drive do I select system managed or no paging file?

So at that point I was clear that I use the 384 min/max setting for the OS drive, but unclear on what setting, if any I use for the audio drive.

Opus then wrote:

Yeah....512MB Ram set to 384 min and max.
Use Custom not System managed...and definately not No Paging file.

This quote suggests to me to use the 384 min/max setting for both drives, yet in the first post you stated "you don't want a VM for both drives."

I'm dazed and confused! Oh master Opus, please fill in the blanks (in my mind):

OS drive setting:_______________

audio drive setting:_____________

Thanks! We love ya man!!

Dazed and confused......aren't we all sometimes? :p
Ok, straight and simple here...
Do not use any virtual memory for the audio drive..absolutely no need for that. Plain and simple.
OS drive(C Drive) is where you do a custom size making it 384 min and max.
Audio drive...no paging.
