I hear of some that do there mastering through Cubase without Wavelab. What are the main advantages to having Wavelab? Is it worth the 400.00? Can one really do good mastering with Cubase?

well, the thing about Wavelab is that it gives the felxability of adding in a quick soundbite during CD building(ya know when you tell what track and when..) It has a motage feature that is really awesome...plus I guess you could say Wavelab is the end point checker..it has 3d and stereo analization options..metering..leveling..whatever ...you can master a song in cubase but you still need to have a program to burn CD's..either sound forge or wavelab is best for that...you can tell tracks to merge instead of having that 2 second gap..it's an external two track editor that's very useful to have indeed...very powerful and comprehensive..what more can I say

I don't use wavelab, so I don't know about it. Sound Forge can burn cd's, but they raped the functionality of CD architect out of it, and dropped support and development on cd arch. You can't burn a 'cd-at-once' with it, only 'track-at-once'. :(

Although, you can still purchase cd architect, it is somewhat limited for cd burners, unless you update it to the very latest, and even then, it doesn't burn on win2k. So, needless to say, I am not happy with Sonic Foundry. But cd arch is "tit's" for making cd's!!

That said, most cd burners come with some sort of cd burner, although I doubt they go by red book standards, and the features are basic.

You can 'master' with any audio editor. In fact, I usually use about three, Sound Forge(5 and 4.5), Cool Edit 2000, and Goldwave. Each has different effects, and little things I like to do with each one. Cool Edit 2000 has a great noise reduction. Sound Forge has a nice enhancer/smoother.

I suppose one could use Cubase for mastering.

Unfortunately, My cdrw IS a supported drive, as of the last CDArch update, and when I try to burn something, it just sits there.............. spinning the drive...... and not burning anything.

I DID have an originally supported scsi burner, but it crapped out, and Ricoh wants $200 to fix it, even tho I paid a bundle for it, for that amount of $$ I can buy a different one.
Oh well.

That's why I went with Wavelab...they understand the consumers using the products..not to diss SF..when I did use their products I enjoyed it...everyone has their own ideals as to what sofware is better suited for them..I chose to go with Steinberg products due to their unparellel support for platforms and OS's that are out there. I like the fact that Wavelab will always have a CD burning feature in it..it's very easy to use to..as well as complex if you want it to be. Just my $.02 worth

Why is that after using WL when I go to shutdown my computer I get a bluescreen error. It only happens when I use WL. Any way to fix this? I tried the WL forum at Cubase.net but no one answeres me.

Also, I converted a MP3 to wav, then I burned it onto Cd...Now I have POPs in some places..Can WL fix those pops?

Direct X 7.1 is what I'm using. Should I update to DX 8? I heard there was problems with that??

I did reduce the hardware accleration for the grphics card, like you mentioned, It helped a littel, it still messes up at times...I think it is more apt to do it when I use the "3d Analysis" function. I not sure. It just seems after I use that funtion things start getting weird.
