Hi everyone. My question is if I have not so great drums and no specific booth to put them in and I just have SM57s through a digi002, what can i do to get the best sound i can. Any Help would be great.

New Heads, and a good tuning with appropriate damping, and a des
New Heads, and a good tuning with appropriate damping, and a descent pair of "Snare Wires" on the snare bottom will help, too (I like the "Pure-cussion" brass snare strands). Cheap drums will often be "untrue", so an "in tune" drum is practically impossible. This is where damping might help get rid of the un-even overtones.
If that is no good, most anything else you do will be a waste of time IMO. Use the "4 Mic Technique" as described by Recorderman, or many others (2 OH's, and Kick and Snare). Getting the drums to sound good on their own is definately where you need to start before you even think about putting up a mic...
