Hi All,

I currently use "E-MU 1820M" as my preamp, and I am thinking
about getting the "ART Pro Channel" preamp and compressor.

Is there a real differance between the two preamps?
Is it a real "upgrade" or will I recieve the same results?

It will be nice if you can recomand me of a single channel preamp and compressor, that cost around 300-350$ that is better than the ART pro channel.

I usually record female vocals and acustic/electric guitars.

Thanks.

Whoa!! Don't go confusing me with a professional; I'm just another random dude on the internet.

But seriously, tubes were around first so that is what was used to amplify signal. Later technology changed and integrated circuits and transistors and junk made a new to amplify signal. Some people still prefer the sound of the old tube technology and some people prefer the characteristics of the newer non-tube designs. API and Neve are in the non-tube category and they are considered world class.

Sounds like you have some kind of grudge thing going, but if you NEED an EQ/Compressor/Preamp all-in-one box, that FART will be OK. But if you want to concentrate on getting a good sound first and compressing/eqing in the computer later, then I think something like The Brick would make you happier. It is also tube which you will like, I guess. That stuff you heard about tubes being better for computer recording is just marketing hype and stuff to trick you. Sticking a tube in a preamp doesn't automatically make it good; the design of the circuitry, power supplied, transformers, etc will determine if the tube is implemented properly to sound good. Hope this gives you some insight and clears away some bull.

I don't know what faces you are talking about.

I am a "tube guy"...But...TUBES AIN'T BETTER!!!! They impart a certain "color" to the sound, that's all. And the SP VTB has got to be the dirtiest box I have ever heard. It is useable as an effect- a "fuzztone for the mic", if you will. Maybe that's what you are looking for. And as far as people "giving you" gear that they don't use..... :(

its nice to talk with all you experts. if Tubes aren't better? Then why did the invent them? I heard that tubes were better for recording on computers. I thought that's why they make them. If they don't sound better then what should I get? I want something that will sound professional but I need to keep it not costing a lot because I have to make payments on a new car my mom and dad helped me get for graduation. Between the car and buying my own cloths cause they don't buy my cloths anymore I don't have very much left from my allowance. Dose that Brick have a eq and compressor and how much do they cost if they do. I think I need a eq and compressor because I want to sound professional. I'm going to make Cds and I want them to sound better that that guys Cd he makes so I can show him up cause he sucks and he shouldn't have all that equipment cause I deserve it more. Then all the people who go to him to record hem will come to me instead. Then he will go I should have let him have that Art cause I don't use it anywise. What are those little faces at the left for?

Sorry for the bad spelling. I just remebered that I can spell correct on the computer.

Do you have a brother named Walters?
