Little Radiator
Everyone needs a little warmth in their life. Little Radiator models the classic sound of the Altec 1566A mic preamp, and lets you spread some analog tube magic on your mixes. This was one of the main sounds from the classic Motown mixes, became a secret weapon of boutique producers, and is now a vital part of the sound of bands like the Black Keys. Why? Give it a listen and hear. Subtle warmth, or driving grit, all the things you need to shake the "clean" off of your computer recording. Now you're getting that warm feeling.
Radiator. Coming April 2012
This upgrade from Little Radiator is based on the Altec 1567A (the 1566A's big brother). It's the next level in this classic sound with extra control and an extra SoundToys twist. Details coming soon.
A Bit of History
The unmistakable green-faced Altec gear, and in particular the 1566A and 1567A, played a big part in shaping the early "sound" of Motown between 1961 to 1964. Songs by greats like The Four Tops, The Marvelettes and The Supremes went through a 1567A mixer to the massive three track recorder. Ahhh, when life was simple. These mic preamps and mixers have a very colored warm sound and are very loud. The EQ is as simple as it gets, with one knob for bass, and another for treble. After Motown, and after much gear came and went, analog diehards began seeking out the 1566A and 1567A as inexpensive sources for real tube sound. Producer Matt Wallace was a very big fan. Butch Vig and Billy Bush are also fans. Check out our Gear Closet on the 1567A for even more info.
Anyone ever tried the real thing ? I'm loving it so far!

I'm not quite sure about their marketing concept? Don't radiators hiss? Why would anybody want hiss? Joe Meek killed his landlady because he didn't have his rent money. Who wants to be Joe Meek? These people need to take a course in advertising and marketing. I think maybe if they called it " PURPLE BLUE BALL COMPRESSOR " it would be better than a radiator? I think the Italian firm IK Multimedia got it right with T-Racks as in Tube Rack Tracks. But then I have an issue with their company name when it comes to sound because it's kind of "IKey" Sounding for a company name.I call my company CROW. And it means Control Room On Wheels. However, while I may have failed English in high school, I know that in the English American vernacular, Control Room can be written two ways. It can be written as Control Room or it can be written as Controlroom. But that would have made my company COW. And somehow, everybody thinks Crows are much cooler than Cows. I mean we have Black Crows, Counting Crows, Cheryl Crow's, Cro-Magnon. Of course however, I did state (even though I live in a Commonwealth) I flunked English. So I might possibly be wrong... or rather, incorrect?
I'm always in correct style.

I thought you were joking about that landlady thing but I can never tell so I had to look it up. Lo and behold! Joe Meek was a freak in his own league:

Well thank goodness I won't have to waste my money on this. Good thing I have a pair of Altec Lansing 1567 A's. Maybe I should put them back into the control room? I haven't had them in the control room since 1978. I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting the recordings I wanted to with my 36 input 1974 NEVE? Thanks for telling me. Now I can get rid of that NEVE.
What about my API's?
