So at my place I have stuck with Cubase SX (1) for years and never had any serious problems with the software itself. My friend Chris, however, is another story. For the second or third time in recent months, Cubase SX (2) has begun to refuse to start... quitting as the words "global settings" flutter past along with the names of plugins, etc...

The last two times nothing short of a wiped drive could remedy the problem. This time, though, it has occurred in Studio A, and that computer cannot get it's drive wiped. Yeah, yeah...backup. I know. But this is at a youth center and it's just not in the cards. Though I could not fix it last time I am convinced that at some point someone learning the ropes in the control room checked one wrong option box and rendered the entire room useless. Has anyone else noticed this glitch? And if so, did you have to chuck the hard drive into the fire place or not?

To assist in diagnosis, here's what I know off the top of my head:

P4 rackmount CPU
1 GB RAM
Hyper-threading disabled
MOTU 896HD
Cubase SX 2
Reason 2

For a quick check, you can just rename the plug in folder to determine if thats the issue. I've had legit freeware plugs cause problems. You didn't mention what patch level you were using on sx2. The latest patches for 2 have proven pretty stable.
