So I used a Sm87 for a live gig for about 6,000 people and I liked the Mic alot. It's a hypercardioid so the feedback rejection was great and it seems to have some sort of internal shock mount that helps to minimize noise if you have to ajust the mic.
I've only used it for one show, convince me i don't need to buy one of my own.

If it compliments your voice well, and your current mic is piss poor, then consider picking up one. Even Bonno uses a dynamic Beta 58a (A $180 mic) - so it is not like the Beta 87a is the "God of vocal mics"... If you do buy one, don't pay much more than $250 for a new one...

I myself use a senny 835 for my live vocals as I like its sound better than the shures but hey that's just me- it works for me, so.... :D

I went ahead and got the Beta87A because they would have had to majorly special order the SM87 as they don't make em anymore.
I am thinking i'll get more out of this mic than stage use.
Anyone use is on snare or other applications in the studio?

I've seen you recommended a sm7 in another thread for the question 'if you only had one mic for vocals'. would you choose the ksm9 over the sm7 now?

If you liked it and did the biz for you then just go with the flow and embrace it - audio issues are so subjective that ask a thousand people and you'll find hundreds who prefer X over Y equipment, mostly just because they like the feel or how it works for them rather than 'we did a month long scientific test with a large sample of people in different situations' and can prove X is better than Y'
No doubt some will not like the mic but in the end it's just like which DAW is better - Cubase, Sonar, Logic, Samplitude etc and watch everyone flame each other and tear into each other whilst extolling the virtue of their 'favourite'. If you like it then buy one !!
