The articulation the clarity and the reverb was stunning sounding. That is the best synthesizer piano I have ever heard. What kind of DI boxes did you use? The ones labeled DPA? It would have sounded fabulous for a rock 'n roll song. Or was that piano actually made out of stainless steel? I didn't know they made pianos without soundboards? Sounds good without that nasty lid and awful soundboard. Yeah grand pianos down sound good with the lids still attached. All they do is reflect the sound into the room and who wants that?

That's a state of the art as they could possibly sound. Beautifully electronifried.

Yeah, this is probably one of the better pianos that i've heard.
Please fill us in on the details.

The only problem (for me anyway) is that it sounds a little too close to the source. Like my head is inside the piano. So there's not a lot a character to it. Lacks body/breath, and natural resonance. A bit too 'attack-y' (is sterile a better word)
As Remy said, appears to have the lid off.
I would have expected more sustain on the top notes where there's no dampers as well.
Having said that, most libraries I've auditioned that have more body, sound painfully honky. So this piano is certainly more 'useable'.
It is very depressing to sit and play a real piano, and then play on a sampled version. (or even listening back to a recording)
They always pale by comparison. Always.

BTW- What is the music composition? Has some Ginastera elements in there, although, I don't think it's his work.

THE MIXES
I interpret the 2nd mix with more reverb as an attempt to smooth out the closeness that I mentioned above. But that doesn't quite do it does it? It appears to have more 'room' but still has the sharp attack.
As a solo piece, I thought the low end sounded fine on the 1st two mixes.
If it were mixed with other instruments, then the HPF might be of some help.
Same with the top end boost.

Overall, I give it an 8.5 out of 10 for whatever that's worth.

I don't know my piano solo lit as well as I might. I cheated, that "Danza" is used in the ballet Three Cornered Hat and the whole ballet has some nice horn soli. What keyboard is that, Chris? Is it a Yamaha Portable Grand or maybe one of the Clavinovas?

Doesn't look like we are going to get more action on this so, Its a Kronos X 88. Absolutely awesome keyboard. The feel on this is extremely close to a Grand. There are some setting I need to learn that help the sound. But it was a first attempt at this. I think its pretty impressive. Definitely great for commercial and popular music.

The reverbs on the first 3 are a Bricasti M7 and the last three are a combination of 3 in series, Early Refection, Hall and Bricasti M7. I want a second Bricasti now. The M7 is one cool product.

The only thing that stops it from being a decent classical style instrument is it sounds like the microphone is right on top of the hammers, which is exactly where you might mic it for rock or similar. I don't think you can ameliorate that per se for solo classical piano at all. As an accompaniment instrument for a choir it would do very well indeed. You could take the direct or mic the cabinet to "feather in" to the stereo mains for the choirs.

Have you had work done on your piano in house yet? Your daughter is talented enough to rate it. She should watch some flamenco and tango dancing and guitar music to get the flavor and style even more refined. For amusement you can find Strictly Ballroom on Netflix.

Hey John, not looking to use this keyboard for anything other than pop and remixing in the studio. Its was fun posting it and trying to get that Bricasti to work with it though. I wish we had this when I was carting around a Yamaha CP70 back in the day. My back is ruined from all the gear and hard shell cases that weighed a ton. But this thing makes a great second practice piano now too.

We gave up on rebuilding this piano for now. It's a $8,000 touch-up and we're just not sure if its worth it anymore.

Ya, Flamenco is actually something I do pretty good so she's heard a bit from me. You are spot on there. Her teacher has said this as well. Great tip on Netflix, thanks!
