Hi.

I haven't been able to get Pro Tools to acknowledge digital signal from the Focusrite ISA428 ADAT outputs.

The main problem seems to be that in my Hardware preferences, I can't change the Optical choice from S/PDIF to ADAT. Its greyed out.

What do I do?

Thanks,
Mike

JD: Hey, my Control Panel menu doesn't have anything ProTools related except OMS options (which I don't have a blessed clue about anyways).

But heh, I figured it out. The box I was trying to change was also found in a different hardware setting elsewhere, and today it let me change it.

So thanks for your help. Mods: you can delete the thread if you want. I'm fixed.

Hey Poot,

There definatley should be a Digidesign selection in your control panels. If not then perhaps the program wasn't installed properly. I could be wrong (but I doubt it) but when you install PT it puts the Digidesgn in your control panels. It's great that you got it to work though.

The OMS is the OPEN MUSIC SYSTEM control panel which deals with all of your MIDI functions and allows your PT to send and recieve Midi to and from your controllers and modules.

Best wishes,

Hey Opus,

I am using a PT001 in my home setup. And it has the control panel to allow the Mac OS 9.2 to configure the 001s sound card without running the PT prog. I don't know why but it does. I never installed a separate control panel for it in the apple menu.

I would post a screen shot but I use the Mac stripped extension wise for the audio apps, it isn't online.

Best wishes,

Personally I can't stand Pro Tools...especially the LE packages. Not to sound snobby but I prefer not to use Digidesigns hardware...too expensive and limiting as well.

With Native based systems you can use any sound card you want, which usually have better converters and more flexability then Digi's hardware!

At that point you can choose your sound...Pro Tools is blah...mid range garbage on the summing bus and the hardware itself...the more you add to more it becomes mush with harmonics being added where you don't want them to be!

Opus :D

AHH more pro tools bashing.

I must say that it really is up to the music/musicians and engineer on how things sound. I can make things sound great on anything if I've a good band playinng a good song.
I've got pro tools, and knowing IT has made me alot of good money. More opportunities for knowing it right now than any other paltform.
You set your own limitations.

cool...if were despising, I'd throw computers in there period...things have been downhill ever since they came on the seen.
But, you were the one that mentioned "limits"

P.S. I like the glowing ropes.

Hey Guys,

I use PT because most of my clients in the larger studios use it. It is easier for me to bring the session home and tweak and bring them back in.

I have used DP, Cubase, Logic and a few others. They are pretty much all the same except for the Midi freaks out there. Where most of the other programs other than PT excel.

I am a firm believer that it is not what you record on but who is recording it. I get paid for my ears not for the system I am using. I believe you can get great results from a Tascam Portastudio 4trk if you know what you are doing.

Best wishes,

I noticed that there seems to be a lot of people that feel pressured into using Pro Tools. There are people who need it to stay compatible, there are people that use is cause they don't know anything else and there are people who use it cause everybody else does. Pro Tools for me was and always will be a personally choice. If there were only three people left in the world using PT, I would be one of them.
