That, some talent, experience, decent microphones, preamps, and sound card (nothing exotic required), decent acoustics - both for recording and mixing - and a good monitoring setup. All that and CEP 2.1 is all you need.

If you can't make decent recordings with CEP, don't blame the software. :wink:

CEP has grown into Adobe Audition, and AA2.0 is a HUGE step up from previous versions with regard to multitrack recording and mixing. A very worthy upgrade.

I'm using CEP v1.2 and I love it. I have yet to find out what later versions of CEP and/or Audition can do that my older version of CEP can't do. Can anyone help there? Just curious.

As to what can CEP do? Well, hit my podcast link (in the signature below) for several compositions I've done with my digital keyboards. There are also a couple of spoken word shows there. The music was recorded at 44.1 kHz, the spoken shows at 22.050 kHz.

Yeah, CEP rocks. I've been using it for about 5 years and I have no reason to use anything else.

Comet, I think you misread my post. I'm using CEP 1.2, not 2.1 and it does everything I could ever ask of a recording studio. Excellant intuitive multitrack functions, more keyboard shortcuts than I normally use, all the effects and signal processing I could ever need... I just can't see the need to upgrade to anything more than what I already have with 1.2. 8)

I also misread - 1.2 .. that goes back a ways. I did not get into CEP until the very end of 1.2. Everything I said still stands, but if I recall, the big change from 1.2 to 2.0/2.1 was non-destructive effects in MT mode ... and that's HUGE!!!!!

AA 2.0 adds automation, multiple aux sends (with automation), master effects and automation, and a huge host of other things. You'd barely recognize it's roots in 1.2 ... although EDIT view would still be pretty comfortable to you.

If 1.2 is working for you then run with it - although once you step into something newer, I can't imaging you'd be longing for the good-ol'-days.

AA 1.5 is what I prefer. I purchased AA 2.0 and it is very different from 1.5. I found 2.0 to be too top heavy when doing larger multitrack project. More fault my machine than the software. I think you would do better with 1.5 if you have 512mb of ram or less and a non ASIO sound card. What I like to do is track out in 1.5 and save a copy of the session and then open it in 2.0 to master and polish up the sound.

Don't get me wrong...I love AA...but it sure would be nice to be able to use a VSTi or midi *cough cough*.

When I saw that 2.0 still would not be supporting VSTis that completely eliminated my desire to upgrade.
