Re Brad Blackwood-
I just found out about the CraneSong dithering CD and went & checked it out on their web site. I saw your CraneSong dithering endorsement so I thought I would ask for your opinion on it.
What do you know about the CD? How does it work - do you just add it to another track in the software & mix it in? I know it says it comes with instructions, I just thought I'd try to get a little inside info. Do you know how well it works? It sells for $30. Is that a wasted $30 (not likely being as how its CraneSong, right?), or will it work better than the software dithering (in my case - Sonic Foundry).
Supposing it does work well, would you add it as another track, and send it through the same processing (across the master bus) that the audio gets or would you strap all the processing across the audio track and mix in the dithering track on a seperate track & send both to the master bus (with nothing on the master bus)? (Does that make sense?)
Thanks for any help.

I called Crane Song up a while ago and asked them about this CD.
I called Crane Song up a while ago and asked them about this CD. It's not just white noise. Whoever I spoke to, maybe it was Dave Hill, told me it's derrived from some complex, but logical process. Perhaps give them a call and ask?
I'm going to be purchasing it when I start doing important mix downs.
