I'm pretty new to the whole home recording and DAW world. I've been messing around for awhile at home using Sonar 3 and various softsynths. I don't have any wild money making dreams. Just a hobby that seems to grow more serious as the days go by. .more expensive as well. :D
I'd like some constructive criticism on a particular tune of mine. I don't think it sounds bad. .but it's not exactly "alive" either. I'm green, remember? :lol: I want to improve at this. I think I have some decent song ideas and I want them to sound nice.
I'm looking to add some sparkle perhaps. .and some overall thickness. Increase the ball factor a bit.
What's good? What's bad?

Not exactly sure what kind of mix you're going for but check out these tracks by necrophagist and a/b it to your track if you like the sound. Just get the levels and EQ as good as you can get them before thinking about doing any bus compression/limiting or sending it off to get mastered elsewhere.

Instead of widening the pseudo stereo guitar track I think he should record another rhythm track, one for each channel. That would beef it up quite a bit. Also might wanna play around with the mids around 900-1400Hz and 400-500Hz, IMO.
Hell I used to record 4 guitar tracks in the studio. 2 takes for each channel. 1 pair would be high/medium gain track and the other would just be fairly gritty. Sm57 on the high gain. Beyer 160 on the medium gain.
Gotta be tight as hell though, Brian here is pretty damn tight so I dont think he'd have any problems.

i heard a bit of your song, but on my lap top so its not so great to QA with, but i can suggest getting WAVES MASTER bundle, or DIAMOND :)
The L2 will make a world of difference. I love all their plugs and they sound great.
If you are using a PC, you may be able to find something out there to try first...
I have switched over to Mac and a UAD to boot, but I am seriously considering getting the WAVES MASTER bundle because i dont think i can live without the L2...lol
