Hi everybody,
I am basically an MC who has little to no interest in audio equipment, but needs to know how to use it, and struggles to figure it out.

I have just purchased a Behringer MIC200 Preamp, and a Behringer C-1 microphone, and am having an absolute sh!t of a time trying to set it up with my computer.

I have spent many hours fiddling with it, to absolutely no avail, and am fairly certain that I've had it hooked up correctly right from the start. I'm going to tell you all I can, and hopefully somebody can help me. This will be done in the most basic of terms as I am not familiar with any of this stuff.

I used to use a cheap mic with a basic headphone jack connection, which was plugged into the appropriate jack in the back of my computer. This worked fine. Never had any problems with it...apart from it sounding like sh!t. So I removed this mic and plugged my TS connector into this same jack, via a jack plug reducer (not sure about that name, but I'm sure you know what I mean). The other end of this TS cord I plugged into the "output" jack in the back of my preamp. Then I plugged the mic into the appropriate "input" jack in the back of the preamp. And of course I connected the adaptor to the appropriate jack in the preamp, and plugged it into a power source.

Alright so far?

Now here's my problems, and what I have discovered about them.

I get a very strong buzzing sort of noise as soon as my TS connection makes contact with the jack in the back of the computer. This happens regardless of whether the preamp is plugged into a power source or not. However, the buzzing intensifies even further when I do plug the adaptor into the power source. And it intensifies even further still, when I plug the mic into the preamp. The buzzing comes out of my speakers. If I turn the speakers off I hear no buzzing.

Btw, the light comes on on my mic, as do they my preamp. So I am pretty sure they are both working fine. Both were purchased new.

The other interference I get is a radio broadcast playing from my speakers. Just now I discovered the strange source of that, which happens to be myself. When I touch either of the connections on the TS cord, I get the radio reception. Likewise when I hold the mic. However, if I touch the mic or TS connections to any other surface, I don't hear the radio broadcast. It only seems to come from me.

One more thing. The mic does actually work, only I get the overwhelming buzzing and radio broadcast (because I am holding the mic), with it. The intensity of both the buzzing and radio broadcast doesn't change when I record. It always stays the same, except when I handle certain equiment.

Now here are the things I have tried to overcome my problems.

I have fiddled around with all the controls on the preamp. Nothing really seems to make any difference.

I have undone the wiring on the TS connectors, and done it back up in reverse, as too have I switched the cord around so the connectors were in the opposing jacks. No change there.

I have tried switching off and unplugging all my electrical and computer equipment, one item at a time, to no avail.

I've tried moving the preamp around to other locations. Although only within the space of a few feet. No luck though.

I've tried plugging the TS connector into all the different suitable ports in the back of my computer. No difference.

Basically I've just tried the same things over and over, and have made no progress whatsoever, aside from identifying the likely sources of the problems.

I really don't know what else I can try. Any advice would be much appreciated.
