I agree. Or, if that's too much money, the Audio-Technica AT250 or PRO25 are great for both applications, as well as others (like horns). Very flexible and cost-effective.
I sleep with an RE-20 under the bed. Besides being a killer bass/kick/anytrhing mic, it'll open the skull of a would-be intruder...

The D6 might not excel with a bass rig as it does with a kick drum, since the frequencies that are critical to a bass guitar [~150 - 500 Hz] are much more scooped than the other two models you mentioned.

Thanks for the input. I listened to the samples and like the 52 much better than the d112. Unfortunately the RE20 is more than i want to spend on a mic. Is the AT250 the same as the ATM250DE? If so it is a little more in my price range. While i love to record I am not an audiophile so i just cant justify spending more than 300 bucks on a mic. This is a cruel hobby.

and as far as the d112, i have it, don't really care for it. i mean, it's not horrible, just...eh. you might also wanna look at the md421. you can use that beast on just about anything.

The A-T AT250DE is the "dual-element" kick mic. Haven't tried that but have heard raves. I'm referring to the replacement for the discontinued ATM25, which is jewel you can sometimes find on e-Bay used for around $100. It works well on kick and bass amps, I use several on brass showbands. And the suggestion for the Sennheiser is good, it is a classic, but in the States it's almost as much as an RE-20. Decisions, decisions...

yeah the Sennheiser is up there on price, but i was thinking more of the used market. i found one once for $250 at a Sam Ash once, and have seen them go for that much on ebay before. but if you're not into used gear, then i guess it's out of the question.

In an earlier post. Da Moon mentioned the Audio Technica mics....he said

I'm sure he didnt mean the Pro25 as it is (or was) Audio Technica's entry level kick mic and basically sounds like ass. I'm sure he meant the also discontinued ATM25 which is the mic I love and trust with all things low and thumpy. Find this one used and remember they were +/- $150 new. Which was a good price then as well as now. Built like a tank, sounds like all the others wanna....Even a useful mic for metalic screamo vocals ! And as a heavy guitar mic.....golden. I bought mine from a dealer who buys in bulk and had them for a Very Special Price......How I wish I had bought several. As a bass player it will rule your recordings.

I misspoke. I DID state the ATM25 was the mic I use and have liked for bass amp, kick, horns. I listed the wrong models for the ATM25's replacements (shoulda been ATM250). I'm also sorry to hear that the PRO25 sounds bad. I've not yet run into an AT that did, but nothing surprises me these days...

Check out a Sennheiser e602, great mic for low end stuff.

Am I the only fan of the d112?
its not the only kick mic I use, but its has been a personal fave of mine for the last little wile.
