Hi, Im new to digital recording and have a simple question.
After connecting my Shure pg58 to a preamp, do i then use an XLR-1/4" cable to run it into my emu's 1/4" input or do i use a straight 1/4" - 1/4" connection to the soundcard, baring in mind i want it to be a balanced connection.
Thanks

It depends on what pre you use and what kind of inputs on the EMu there is. if the 1/4" send on the pre and the 1/4" input on the EMu are trs (balanced) then a 1/4" balanced TRS cable will work fine .. If not, then the 1/4" to XLR is the way to go ...
Balanced cable runs are theoretically best but with short cable lengths, the difference may not be noticeable.

LOL!
Who sponsers that place? I can't seem to find that out?
I have checked that place out before ... :D IMO, there's some very dubious recommendations for equipment on that site. It appears the intention there, is more to highlight Behringer, Mackie, Alesis and like "rack crap" stuff more than anything else.
There's some content there regarding technique but a lot of recommendations for crap gear too.
Surfers beware ... there's sharks in the water!
