Greetings all,

I thought I'd pass on some info about the New Pro Tools/HD systems. This isn't a plug it is just FYI. This topic seemed to be realy hot on the Digi boards. I am an authorized Digidesign TDM Dealer and I got the news late today. The info is only partial, but it give you the ideas. The main system is 192k sample rate at 24 bits, a whopping 128 tracks! over 128 aux. returns, 128 midi as before. The system is going to run on the same Pro Tools Software until an upgrade (that wasn't mentioned) is released. The are two I/Os 192k and 96k.

Anyway I thought everyone might like to know. If you want to know more I put a lot of the detail on our website.

For anybody doing mixes in PT, or using PT as a quasi-tracking machine, that set includes any plug in they have ever used on a mix. 1 - for any mix that might need to be recalled, 2 - for any client who needs to have "that sound you did on my last mix".

To have a better understanding of the situation, practice saying the following: "Sorry, I can't give you the same sounds as before. See, I upgraded." Don't worry if it sounds a little more asinine each time you repeat it, that's normal.

Very true Ang, well said.
Add to that the fact that working methds have changed considerably over the last couple of years.
In the "old days" I used to be in lock-down with a band / artist, for weeks and sometimes months in the studio. You went in with nothing - came out with a finished album.
Now (at least my) working methods have changed. Artists I work with often work on their material at home as well, and their time here in the studio is spread, a week here, couple of days there, sometimes even an hour here and there, until its time to mix, and then well do that in lock-down timespan. This makes work interesting, and ensures a constant workflow (even during the night!).
Essential for this kind of work - system consistancy. Without it, forget it.
Apart from that, people do expect certain high endplug-insto be available, and in addition some otherplug-insare simply essential to our methods of working.

Darren - I don't mean this in a negative way, but you have succombed to the marketing hype. Many of theplug-insyou list as available for HD now are simply NOT available as yet.
I could take them one by one, but lets take my 2 most important suppliers, TC (earliest the end of June - if everything goes ok) and Waves (8 weeks if we work our asses of and all the testing goes without a problem, but it might be longer).

This is simple fact, reality, stripped of the hype.

Sjoko,

Which ones are not available that I said was. I was just going by my product information given to me by Digidesign. Usually they are pretty close to right. Maybe you didn't notice I had two categories the released and shipping and the release 1st Q and 2nd Q. Maybe I just didn't make it very clear what I meant.

Waves is one of the companies I talked to at Namm, they said it would shipping in a couple weeks at 96k. I'm not sure about the 192k, I don't think anybody is going to be rushing out to do a full project in 192 very soon, just because of storage. I didn't get a chance to talk to TC so I don't know.

I was just curious whatplug-insspecificaly everybody has to have. For one reason, If I don't sell it I need to! :D Who did you talk to at Waves?
