after much thought, i've narrowed my monitor search down to the event tr-6 monitors. at $399US...does anyone have any opinions on these. am i making a good choice, or is their other monitors in this price range you would strongly recommend more then these. (keep in mind i can't afford to save any longer as i need them for a project asap) so this price range would be most suitable) thanks

Monitors are such a subjective thing that it's pretty hard to get a feel for what is good/bad/ugly.
That being said, I have always had difficulty with Event monitors. I think that the lows and low-mids are very strange and almost "hollow"-sounding. I've mixed in several well-built control rooms on Events and found that my mixes didn't travel nearly as well as other monitors.
Your room design will be as important as the monitor itself. I tend to mix on a old shitty pair of NS-10's but my room is well tuned. This makes the difference in my mixes transferring well.
Monitors are like shoes: If they feel good, buy'em.
