I figured Careless Whisper would be a good song to re-record, and I discovered the original George Michael isolated vocal track on the net, so there are two versions - the track, followed by George Michael's lyrics on the top!

Despite trying hard, I've got a couple of sync issues, and one clip is mistakenly the second time version, but in the first time location so there's a note wrong! No matter how hard you try to spot these late at night, I still missed them until watching it back - never mind. I'll try harder next time.

Not sure what's next - I wanted to do Billy Joel - but will have to re-learn the sax part because in my head I learned it in the wrong key! Trying to think of other songs I can do with similar instrumentation. I guess Baker Street could be a good one - can anyone think of a well known tenor sax song? That would be nice.

Drums are my weak point - have a real kit and an electronic one but really rubbish on drums - a coordination thing. That keyboard is the best thing I've bought for ages - mainly because of the browser and the samples of the samples. Love it! I used to use the 88 note one in the background, but not any more.

There are quite a few isolated vocals out there. Many are horrible, but there are a few good ones.

Paul, this is really smooooth I like it. The drums honestly don't sound that bad at all. Definitely not weak. I might just raise them up in the mix a bit and add some gated reverb on that snare (it's an 80s song for crying out loud!). The sax performance is totally passable, but could be improved with a little more of that altissimo growl (basically distortion for sax). The bass and keyboard are perfect, really smooth keys. The guitar could be more prominent, especially the outro - but I am biased toward that classic funky strat sound. Overall mix is really nice and airy. Suits the George Michael vocal very nicely. Well known tenor sax song....Many Pink Floyd tracks (Money, Shine On, Gunners Dream).

My Floyd experience is a bit limited and gunners dream means a trip into Spotify. The one thing that surprises me is how annoying the cameras are, not from the technology or even intrusion perspective, but the editing needs are so different from the recording ones. I'm so used to just hitting record and looping a few bars then dumping the takes with missed beginnings or huge wrong notes. I've discovered a real problem with premiere in editing this stuff. Unless you go through each video clip and give it a proper name organising good and bad is horrible. Premier unlike cubase doesn't support naming of individual lines so you cannot work like you do in a DAW and move things on a whim. This is before you have to worry about sync. It's quite frustrating and encourages you to record in a different way. I'm actually learning a lot from it. Maybe a guitar song would be good? Not sure my guitar fingers are up for anything tough!

Nice job Paul ! I wanna hear that chunky rhythm guitar more so the pads arent so dominant .
When i listen to Simply Red , ( love alot of those songs ), I have the same opinion ( that the pads were a little too dominant because they are very step wise and repetitive ) .Just a .matter of taste .
Really smooth mate !
