Hi
Looking for a bit of help from one of the fine people on this forum. I record a podcast and have recently started having weird crackling sounds that I cannot figure out.
We use: Carol microphones -> Wharfedale EZ-m 20x2FX mixer -> ESI U24XL -> Macbook Pro. We use Audacity to record, and Soundtrack Pro to edit.
An example of the sound can be heard on our podcast here, worst around the 32 minute mark. http://www.bangkokpodcast.com/thai-langauge/bangkok-podcast-thai-langauge-series-2/
This crackling is AFTER running it through Soundtrack's click remover four times.
The crackling seems to be louder the louder we talk, leading me to wonder if it's a problem with the electric current? The cables are all secured and jiggling them doesn't affect the sound in any way.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

You are right, some serious pops and such (our newest podcasts have addressed this, but the crackling remains).
Not so sure what you mean dry joints... the equipment we have is new, only bought a few months ago. Hmm...
Thank you for the suggestion of high-pass filter, I will look into this.

I listened right through that section and heard only huge pops and thumps and no crackling, but a podcast format is not the best for listening to this wort of thing. Can you post a short snippet somewhere in .wav or .MP3 format that includes some of the crackling you would like us to comment on?
I did hear the crackling you are referring to. As Boswell said,
I did hear the crackling you are referring to.
As Boswell said, that's not the only problem (EQ, Pops...) but it sure can be annoying.
It seems that they only appear when the main voice is speaking and it seems to be more or less modulated by it.
Sounds like a bad connection somewhere but where??
Did you try changing cables, pres, mixer,...???

Where exactly do you mean in the podcast? The time counter counts towards zero from about -33 minutes. The bit I did listen to had no crackling, but there were some serious EQ and popping problems. A high-pass filter is essential for speech podcasting.
Dry joints are the usual cause of amplitude-related crackling.
