hello!
which would you use? Sonar 3 producer edition or pro tools 5.01. I have to tell you: I honestly don't know if the pro tools version is old... would I get basically the same results in a home recording studio?

You´d better go with at least PT 5.1.x. So you will be compatible with the biggest part of the PT community working nowadays.
With 5.1.x you can save your sessions as 5.1/5.0/4.x.
