Has any one tried the Vintech 473? I really want some 1073 pres but I can't afford to get the real things. Would the vintch be a smart choice?

I have the original Neve 1272 (3 channels) and I think that Vintech has done a wonderful job re-creating the sound with the Dual 72.
I also have the X73i and agree with boheme6 that it is a great piece of gear.
I use it on many sources and the eq works in a way that you can't get inside the box.

ok now should I get teh vintech four 1073-styke preamps, or should I get some API 500 series pres? Also, I am just using these as PREs and not using the eq. I use a AMEK TAC Scorpion console and do most my mixing in there. Would it be worth it fro me to get the pres without eqs?

Thats a tough question to answer. If you love the TAC's eq then I would save my money for straight mic pres and buy more channels.
But, until you've used another style eq, you may not know what you are missing. All eq's have different qualities.
I suppose it depends if you're to type of person who doesn't like to eq too much to tape and would rather do most of the eq'ing on mix. If so, then buy the pres.
But if you're like me and don't have a problem commiting tones to tape, then an extra eq with a different flavor can be very valuable.
I think the above points should be thought about.
Hope this helps,
Chris

Yes, The Vintech stuff is real good. I own a pair of x81's with the same mic pre as the 473 and love them dearly.
