I haven't seen any steller pre's on a USB interface, but there are some good ones on some firewire units, like the ONYX.

The interfaces are decent, but the pre's are nothing special.

So, this being the Budget forums, it is suffice to say that there are no good USB/Firewire interfaces with good mic-pres in the budget range.

when you buy a mic you usually figure you will keep it for most of your recording life- anywheres between say 10 and 50 years- which makes you wonder if an usb mic won't be obsolete a lot sooner than that- say with the digital mics, like the one Neumann has for 10K- it'll probably be obsolete within 10 years or so. i would not buy any of them for that reason alone
