Sorry I'm a total noob.
Are the mic preamps in all of the USB and Firewire interfaces worth crap? Is it even open to argument?
I'm just wondering whether I should got to USB or mic/line.

when you buy a mic you usually figure you will keep it for most
when you buy a mic you usually figure you will keep it for most of your recording life- anywheres between say 10 and 50 years- which makes you wonder if an usb mic won't be obsolete a lot sooner than that- say with the digital mics, like the one Neumann has for 10K- it'll probably be obsolete within 10 years or so. i would not buy any of them for that reason alone
