I recently did some guitar work for some Acid guys and found that I like it and want to use it in my facility. They want me to get it as well.
I have a Toshiba laptop with 128meg memory and would really appreciate any recommendations for a soundcard of very high quality. I'd be willing to use outboard converters. Minimum of 2 but would like 8 channels because of some killer drum apps I'm hearing about. I'd also like to sync it up to a Panasonic Da-7 with mmc if that's possible.
I'm new at this and would really appreciate any help. Thanks.

Well..first thoughts are...get more memory!! 128 is the minimum that you will need.
Next is the soundcard...you will need a PCMCIA style audio card. Two available that are reccomended...RME and EchoAudio.
The EchoAudio way may be the best since it has Midi I/O built into the box allready and this way you can send MMC to the DA7 from the software. I cant remember if Acid outputs MMC commands or not but wouldnt doubt it.
Just remember that Laptops wont have the same performance as a desktop model. Laptops have slower hard drives due to heat constraint issues and so getting an external hard drive for heavier audio data flow would be reccomended.
Anyways, check out Rme-audio.com and echoaudio.com for PCMCIA devices.
