I hope somebody can help!I am using cooledit pro.I have a tubeamp with a condenser mic.When I record dialog for a voice over,the levels go up and down.They go up for a few seconds,almost peaking,then down much lower.All of the components connected seem to be working ok.Is it the software,maybe the sound card?

No .... spoken word is one of the hardest things there is to record properly. It sounds to me like you need to use a compressor in your recording chain to hold down the peaks and allow you to bring up the gain on the lower level parts...
